New Brewery for EAV

For years East Atlanta Village has had a perfect place for you to grab and drink no matter what type of place you wanted to go to. Want to see live music? 529 and The Earl. Want Mexcian? Holy Taco & Blu Cantina. Want a fancy cocktail or small-batch craft beer with dinner? Banshee or Argosy. Want to watch the big game? Midway Pub. Just like a classic neighborhood dive? The Flatiron. The one glaring absence- a craft brewery. Well- that’s changed now. Hippin’ Hops Brewery and Oyster Bar have opened on Glenwood next to Holy Taco. It hadn’t been legal for a brewery to operate in EAV until last year, but once the rules changed Hippin’ Hops quickly announced it was moving in. The owners’ Clarence and Donnica Boston are amongst the first black entrepreneurs to open a brewery not just in Atlanta but also in Georgia. Along with its oyster offerings, Hippin’ Hops is cajun inspired, serving up po’boys, fried alligator, and deviled eggs. Check at the full menu and what’s on tap here and get down there already.

“You Ride You Decide”

The vast majority of MARTA’s trains have been in operation since the lines opened for service. Last year, they announced that it would be spending $646 million to upgrade its fleet and purchase new cars. Now they are looking for public feedback on a surprising array of specific design choices. “You Ride You Decide” seeks input on everything from grab bars to seat configuration to maps and display designs. However, a shocking omission is that they aren’t seeking suggestions for the best way to passive-aggressively glare at people talking on their phone in speaker mode. If they would, I would suggest the ironic stare and smirk that says, “You’re so clever! Why isn’t everyone talking on their phone that way?” The new cars aren’t on track until 2023. Head over here to see all the design choices and options for you to judge.

Midtown Garden Stroll

In what is the best way to see Midtown Atlanta’s most extravagant private gardens without being charged with trespassing, the 8th Annual Midtown Garden Stroll is this Sunday. The stroll is free of charge, entirely outdoors, self-guided, and needs no reservations. For those that aren’t just garden voyeurs, but also actively green-thumbed, there is even a “Plant Swap” from 1-4pm. There will be a Garden Stroll Market with vendors serving food and selling plants if you get inspired/jealous of all the gardens. For more info and plan your trip check the link.

Eco-Friendly & Affordable in South Fulton

Shipping container homes are just cool. There’s no way around it. South Fulton is getting Georgia’s, first subdivision with homes built exclusively from shipping containers. The homes genuinely don’t appear to be made from shipping containers. They seem to be post-modern minimalist-inspired homes. See for yourself. As well as just being rad, they’re eco-friendly and more affordable since there drastically cut the need for building supplies. That being said, the homes aren’t skimping on amenities- en suite bathrooms, rooftop patios, and carports are available in the designs. Reach out to the Justin Landis Group if you’re interested in making one your next home.
