Gardens Ensured to Make you Green with Happiness

Unfortunately, the Iman Park Festival will not be happening again this year. But in its place will be the Inman Park Garden Festival. In lieu of the tour of homes that typically showcases many of the over 100 year old homes in the neighborhood, this year they will be showcases their gardens. Which is a great idea this year in particular because you know they had to have gone through an intense gardening Covid phase right after their beard making Covid phase or “it’s not too early to have a drink now right?” Covid phase. There will still be some artists and vendors selling goods but at a reduced level. Be sure to purchase tickets online ahead of time because they are limiting attendance. They are doing this to ensure that it doesn’t get too crowded for safety. Put on your Tevas or Birkenstocks and go see some gardens all ready!

Some Movies DON’T have Explosions

Lights, camera, watch some movies without CGI! The 45th Atlanta Film Festival is starting this weekend, and it is always a great way to see some films that make you seem cosmopolitan. The best thing about this year’s festival is there are so many different ways to attend. Like always, there will be screenings of films at The Plaza, Atlanta’s best theatre. Seating will be at a limited capacity and there will also be drive-in showings of films at Dad’s Garage. Most of the films can be rented as “video-on-demands” while the festival is running so you can watch in the comfort of your own home and in your sweat pants you haven’t taken off since Easter. The festival will run from Thursday, April 22nd, until Sunday, May 21st. I recommend you check out Landlocked. It is a feature film from Georgia filmmaker Tim Hall whose last film won the Atlanta Film Festival’s Georgia Film Award for best local film award.

MARTA Getting SMARTA

In yet another sign that nature is healing itself- MARTA will resume full bus service this weekend. Starting last April, MARTA reduced its 110 bus routes down to its 40 most used routes. Masks will be required to ride, and every bus in the MARTA fleet has been fitted with Bipolar Ionization air filters as well as antimicrobial filters. It would seem logical that public transport would be clusters for Covid spread, but multiple studies looking at many city’s public transports have found no evidence of increased Covid risk on buses or rail. The belief is that with mandatory mask-wearing, good ventilation, and that people don’t typically talk loudly or breathe heavily on buses, that makes buses “safer” than, say, a gym or bar. I, for one, can’t wait to get on a crowded bus after a United or Hawks game and high-five strangers. Remember high-fiving strangers? Oh, man. That was the best.

Van Gogh to Pullman Yards this May

It has seemed like they have been working on developing Pratt Pullman Yards since Sherman gave Atlanta a visit. Well, it is finally beginning to show some signs of life. In February, it was announced that Pullman Yards would be Atlanta’s home to Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience, described as a 360-degree light and sound spectacular. Which makes you go, “Ohhhhh. So you mean like a fancy Pink Floyd laser dome show?” Which the answer is, “Yes! But Van Gogh!”. Now the developers have announced details about the first facilities that will be open to the public, a “movable alcohol park”, which sounds like it’s just a party bus. But it’s not! There are many train rails still at the Yards, and they have custom-built shipping containers that will houses bars and restaurants. They put train track wheels on the shipping containers that will allow them to be moved along the tracks. The plan is to periodically rearrange the containers so that the Yards will never seem “static”. This is great for anyone who has ever thought, “I really like that restaurant. But if only it was always moving to a different location, making it harder to find next time.” Pullman Yards and Van Gogh: Not Just A Fancy Laser Dome will be open to the public in May.

Update: At press time the editors asked, “What is a Laser Dome?” and “They may have just been a regional thing” This writer is adamant that they are a widely known fad and refuses to remove the jokes about laser domes. Apologies.

Update: The writer’s father a native of Austell, GA has confirmed my report that there were in fact laser domes in Georgia. Including one at
Six Flags sponsored by Chevrolet. Unapologies.
