Muchacho right off the Beltline in Reylnoldstown is Expanding! Say Hello, Say Goodbye In a classic good news bad news scenario- Muchacho right off the Beltline in Reylnoldstown is expanding and will start dinner service! They will be expanding into the space that is currently The Golden Eagle and it will be permanently closing on May 2nd. Muchacho and The Golden Eagle share the same building. Muchacho takes up the front of the building and only has 16 seats for indoor sitting. If you’ve ever been on a Saturday, you know how crowded it can get as people munch breakfast tacos, sip coffee, and maybe even enjoy a bloody mary to two. There is great outdoor seating, but even standing in line to order can feel claustrophobic, and that was BEFORE Covid. So the expansion is excellent news for Muchacho fans. The Golden Eagle, famous for its classic cocktails, straight out of Mad Men atmosphere, and being so dark everyone over 45 has to use their phone’s light to read the menu, has been a local favorite since its opening. It really was such a well-designed, unique space that it always felt like an “event” every time you went. It will be sorely missed. But it’s like Don Draper said, “What is happiness? It’s a moment before you need more happiness.” I know that doesn’t really fit. I just love that line. Atlanta is in for a Slow Down Last year the Atlanta City Council unanimously passed a traffic safety law making the default speed limit 25 miles per hour, among other changes. This week mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced the city has been slowly replacing some 1,000 speed limit signs on more than 300 streets. Once done, about 75% of the roads will have a 25 mph speed limit. The goal of the program is to reduce the amount of traffic-related fatalities in the city significantly. If a pedestrian is struck by a car going faster than 19 mph they are much more likely to have a severe injury or die. You may ask, “why isn’t the speed limit 19?” Because people typically hit their breaks before they hit someone and the slower speed will hopefully allow for more reaction time to avoid an accident altogether. The speed reduction is just one component of the plan that will include re-designs of streets to make them safer for pedestrians and drivers. Jerry Seinfeld Defies the Rules of Science In the most “You’re really pushing that this has something to do with real estate or Atlanta” post to date- science has proved that Jerry Seinfeld’s apartment was structurally impossible. (Apartments are real estate!) By science, I also mean some guy on Reddit. You can find the drawing here, but basically, it shows that the angle of Jerry’s hallway would actually run through his apartment. This scientific breakthrough has called into question the entire reality of “Seinfeld,” if not the basics rules of physics as we know it. The Nobel committee has called an emergency session to discuss an award for the Reddit user.
