Who doesn’t like plants and coffee?

House plant purveyor, The Victorian started in 2017 at Ponce City Market’s Citizen Supply and quickly became of the most Instagrammed spots in the city. You have almost certainly seen it a picture of it of your one friend that is always out and whose social life seems exhausting. The Victorian is partnering with Bellwood Coffee to open a coffee shop plant store combo, located in East Atlanta Village across the street from Flatiron Bar. Bellwood Coffee will also sell pastries and sandwiches. The Victorian will have a “cactus room” with floor-to-ceiling windows, which I’m sure will quickly become a staple of Atlanta’s online dating profile pics. The Victorian x Bellwood Coffee is planning for a May opening. The original Victorian location will still remain open in Ponce City Market but will now have a stand-alone store near J.Crew.

Tiny Homes, Full Lives

Atlanta’s very first tiny house development, The Cottages on Vaughan has hit the market. The homes are each listed under 200k. They were built by MicroLife Institute, a non-profit in Atlanta that advocates and educates the benefits of micro-houses and micro-living. They believe that micro-homes would be a solution to many problems related to housing. Reduced materials are better for the environment and more homes in an area lead to more affordable housing. The idea of tiny homes has been gaining traction in the Atlanta area, and the local government has begun to adjust buildings laws and codes to more easily allow smaller habitable buildings. Cottages on Vaughan are being built just outside of the perimeter in Clarkston. You can find a video walkthrough of the homes and more on their site.

To-Go Drinks at a New Sunset

We have some updates on some bills that we spotlighted a couple of weeks ago. The Georgia legislature did pass the bill allowing to go cocktail sales for restaurants, and it is now awaiting Gov. Kemp’s signature. To-go cocktails are great for restaurants as cocktails are one of their highest margin items and will help them make it through Covid. If driving, the cocktails must be kept in your glove compartment, trunk, or the furthest seat from the driver. Also passing through the legislature a bill to keep Georiga on permanent “daylight savings time”. The bill will not be able to take effect unless the U.S. Congress passes a law allowing states to stay on savings time. States can currently stay on standard time year-round without federal approval but cannot remain on savings time. If Congress allows, that will mean on December 1st the sun won’t rise in Georgia until 8:37 and won’t set until 6:41.

Why don’t you take a hike!

The weather this weekend looks like it should be pretty close to perfect, so it’s time to get outside! This week on The Landis Look our resident granola-eater-outdoor-enthusiasts, Ben, gave his recommendations for all sorts of hikes. ITP, OTP, kid-friendly, bike trails, you name it! I’ll probably try out South Peachtree Creek Trail, which has beautiful scenery and elevated boardwalks. I’m the kind of hiker that likes to look at the outdoors, not be in the outdoors so it seems perfect for me. Find the video and all of Ben’s recommendations here. Get some sun and enjoy the weather.
