Atlanta Braves Baseball is Back Buddy! Best Believe, Braves Baseball is Back Buddy! Finally, some news all Georgian’s are sure to consider a touchdown, the Braves home opener is Friday, April 9th. Truist Park will be allowing fans for the first time since the 2019 season. COVID precautions will be in place, and the stadium will only be at 33% capacity. This season returns to a par for the course 162 games after a truncated 60 games season last year. The starting gun for MLB season has already been fired, with the Braves losing all of their games so far. Even though the Braves are off to a false start, they are still considered one of the best MLB teams. That being said, this season will be no layup. The Braves are barely front runners to win the NL East, with the New York Mets considered by experts to be just a nose behind them. The Braves still possess one of the deepest and most talented rosters with stars like reigning NL MVP Freddie Freeman, outfielder Ronald Acuñca, plus pitchers Max Fried, Charlie Morton, and Ian Anderson all considered to be heavyweights at their positions. Be sure to pay attention all year because this season will go down to the final buzzer—home run. Sun Shining on Summerhill If you haven’t been to Summerhill in the past few months, you’d not recognize the former home neighborhood of the Atlanta Braves. Construction has begun on a new super cool-looking Georgia State basketball arena and convention center at the former site of the notorious Fulton County DMV Trailer. A massive mixed-use development already underway in former parking lots for Turner Field has announced a long list of future tenants. It will be anchored by a Publix, which is sorely needed for Summerhill and its surrounding neighborhoods. Future tenants also include a credit union, salon, and doctor’s office. They will be joining the half a dozen restaurants that have already taken root on Georgia Avenue. If you haven’t been to the “new” Georgia Ave yet, it is an excellent place for some outdoor-friendly eating with a wide variety of foods. Burgers, BBQ, oven brick pizza, a brewery to quench your thirst, and some soft serve for desert. Look out Hollywood Here Comes Doraville The long-vacated land of the former GM factory near spaghetti junction is set to emerge as one of the state’s most expansive film production sites. Developers plan to build as many as 10 new studios at the Doraville site. The first phase of construction will be the studios, after which they plan to add residential, retail, and business spaces, making a mixed-used development dubbed “Studio City.” There have been plans to develop the 128-acre land every sense the GM factory closed in 2008. Although there has been some construction and progress like the Serta Simmons Headquarters and a couple smaller companies, the land is largely unused and bursting with potential particular considering there is a MARTA rail stop adjacent to the land. Check out the video from developers Gray Media for their complete plans. Let’s All go to the Movies! Not ready to go back indoors for a movie but miss the popcorn and big screen? The Plaza and Dad’s Garage have got you covered! Since May, the Plaza and Dad’s Garage have partnered to have drive-in theatre showings. For most of the run, they were mainly screening classics and previously released movies since Hollywood wasn’t releasing big titles or offering them available at home. And the ones they were releases were....bad. Bad is a nice word. Now that the world seems to be getting back to some sort of normal, Hollywood is releasing some A-list titles. Like Kong vs.Godzilla and Nobody, a very R-Rated movie from the creators of John Wick. The other plus of the outdoor experience is you can order dinner from the many restaurants nearby and have dinner and a movie in your car. You can also purchase concessions from your phone. Get off your couch and out of your house and do your part to support the local economy watch King Kong and Godzilla punch each a lot!
